Jo’s Memorial Ceremony and Funeral

SLIGHT CHANGE OF TIMINGS – HALF AN HOUR LATER THAN PREVIOUSLY ADVERTISED
Updated information on Jo’s Memorial Ceremony and Funeral

jo_2009 On Wednesday 13th November there will be a funeral service for our dear friend  Jo Badger (Jo Robertson) who sadly died on Sunday 3rd November.

Jo was diagnosed and treated for breast cancer in 2011. In May this year she      discovered that the cancer had metastasised to her brain, lungs and, more  recently, her liver. Jo was best known for her campaigning against badger culls,  as well as Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm. She also campaigned with SPEAK, was a hunt sab  for many years and in fact was involved in many different campaigns against all  forms of animal abuse. Also, as a Samaritan volunteer for years, she had  supported many people going through difficult times.

Jo touched the lives of many people, and for all those who knew her there will be an open memorial ceremony and this will be a chance for people to remember Jo, reflect on and celebrate her life. There will be a book of remembrance and tasty vegan food provided by Fairfoods and Kebele Cafe Collective. (If you would like to bring food too, please let us know).

The ceremony will take place at 13:30 at Roadwater Village Hall, Roadwater, Watchet in West Somerset, TA23 0QY.

Anyone is welcome to arrive from around 13.00 to weave a flower, leaf, berries etc into the coffin but the service needs to start promptly at 13:30. We will then go to the woodland burial site for a shorter more intimate ceremony with family and close friends only (due to limited space at the burial site). This will probably be at about 14:30 and they then should be back to the village hall soon after 15:00 for refreshments and to continue celebrating Jo’s life with family and friends.

Directions:

From Bridgwater follow signs to Minehead on A39 or from Taunton follow signs to Minehead on A358. Go through Williton until you get to Washford. Go over the bridge and take the next turning on the left at the hairdressers following signs to Roadwater. At the White Horse Inn turn right. The road will take you directly into the village. The Village Hall is towards the top of the village on the left next to the village shop. (Please note if using a Sat Nav, the postcode will take you slightly past the Village Hall.)

We would ask that people car share where possible as there is limited parking. Unfortunately dogs are not allowed at the ceremony.  Please let us know if you are planning on coming so that we can gauge numbers and if you need any more information –  phone 07779 442 395.

If you feel you want to bring flowers, we are trying to make it as natural as possible so hedgerow, berries, leaves etc would be lovely, as it is a green burial. Any donations on the day will go to causes Jo supported. Also money raised over the past few months for Jo’s treatment abroad will be going to causes Jo supported – the ‘Saving Jo’ raffle is continuing and will be drawn on 1st December.

If you feel you would like to send letters or cards of condolence to her partner and family, you can send them to the addresses below.
