Turkey leafleting in Broadmead

Turkey leafleting 2012

On Wednesday 12th December, BARC activists braved the freezing conditions and the (vegan!?) cheesy Christmas music in the city centre to hand out hundreds of leaflets to Christmas shoppers. We asked people to enjoy their Christmas without inflicting cruelty and suffering on animals for the sake of their Christmas meals.

Turkeys are reared by the thousand in windowless sheds. They are killed at just a few weeks old and are fattened up so fast their legs often can’t take the weight and they collapse underneath them, making it almost impossible for them to get to food and water. Many die before the catchers come to take them away to the slaughterhouses, where thousands are still fully conscious when their throats are cut.

For delicious cruelty-free alternatives to traditional Christmas dinners have a look at some of our festive recipes. There are many more recipes and links to other pages on our recipes page.

Please have a cruelty-free Christmas.
