Inside the walls of Europe’s largest animal testing laboratory, Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS), over 100,000 animals are imprisoned and more than 500 animals are killed every day.
In 2005, in an attempt to stop organisers that were successfully undermining the future of animal testing in Europe, UK Government introduced two new laws; SOCPA 145 and 146, part of the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act. These laws only apply to antivivisection campaigners and turn minor public order breaches into serious criminal offences.
In 2012-2013 seven people were raided, arrested and charged for conspiracy to commit SOCPA. Defendants face a two month trial in September 2014 and up to five years in prison if convicted.
Help us fundraise for their court & legal costs. Don’t let them face this alone!
We stand in solidarity with the SOCPA 7.
We find it disgraceful how laws seem to have been created
specifically to criminalise anti-vivisection campaigning and
to protect animal abusers.
We will do our best to support the SOCPA 7 before,
during and after their trial.
Bristol Animal Rights Collective.
Bristol Animal Rights Collective showed the second UK screening of The Ghosts in Our Machine last night at the Nakba museum. Some people had even travelled from Exeter to watch it. Read more about the film.
Our next film will be at Kebele Social Centre in Easton on Friday 15 August – 6pm doors open for vegan fish and wedges, followed by a screening of Blackfish. Read more about the film.
We had load of fun in Bedminster yesterday, handing out free vegan food samples to some very lucky members of the public! There were some interesting conversations, and good feedback on what people tasted. People were very surprised at how moist the cakes were and couldn’t believe the pizza was gluten-free. Although there was a mixture of opinions about the oat milk, most people were really amazed at how tasty it was. We’re up for doing another in August. Email email@example.com if you’d like to get involved.
Discussion, film, food samples. For anyone wanting to become vegan, or simply wanting to find out more. Book via firstname.lastname@example.org
At Roll for the Soul Cafe, 2 Quay Street. We’ll be upstairs.
Wed 14 May from 6pm.
